The State Agency of Medicines supervises medicines.

Medicines are sold in Estonian pharmacies. Medicines are divided into over the counter and prescription drugs. The latter can be assigned with a doctor’s respective order or prescription. Estonia uses digital prescriptions. You can buy medicines from all Estonian pharmacies with a digital prescription. To purchase medicines with a digital prescription you need an identity document.

You can apply for a benefit for medicinal products to buy medicines. The prerequisite is health insurance, the purchased medicines must be included in the list of discounted medicines and these medicines must be purchased in a sum exceeding EUR 384 each year.
