Volunteer work and activities

Volunteer work has three main characteristics:

  • activities take place according to free will;
  • the volunteer does not gain direct monetary or material rewards;
  • the activities are directed outside one’s own home and family, for someone else or for the benefit of society at large.

You can find a list of organisations that provide volunteers with activities on the website www.vabatahtlikud.ee

Once a year, on the International Volunteer Day, 5 December, the recognition event for Estonian volunteers is organised with the objective to recognise and thank them on behalf of the Estonian state. The President of the Republic is the patron of recognising volunteers.
